I worked for Barclays Capital in London for 6 months as part of my degree. During this time I built a communication layer on top of an existing trading platform. This enabled a new interface to be built using the existing back end. The layer used Microsoft COM and templates to wrap functionality and then used Java to communicate with that layer.
