I have managed developers on both a formal and an informal basis. While working with Macquarie I had several developers working for me. They were relatively inexperienced so required a lot of guidance. I have had to coordinate developers across timezones and continents. At KBC in London I spent significant time working with clients and developers on projects in Hong Kong and New York as well as locally. Some of these projects required trips to the location and others were done remotely. In many cases I found myself the senior developer in the group so took responsibility for coordination and communication of the group. I have used many tools for managing groups and projects such as wikis and bug tracking tools. I have been on several courses as part of working for the Ministry Of Defence and Macquarie Bank. Team management is definitely something I enjoy and something that there is less call for in the contracting world. |
